The study/ husband/ boyfriend/ comfortable pillow

Years ago, when I was a kid, I had one of those husband pillows. You know the kind I’m talking about. They have high backs and “arms” that come out from the sides that prop you up. I used it on the floor to prop myself up to view the television while I was playing Nintendo.

The Boyfriend PillowBuy Now! $29.99

I remember it had some sports team on it, the Mets I think, and it was cherished as my video game chair. I’m not sure where that pillow went, but I know I don’t have it anymore.

Years later, in college, I saw many students that had them in their dorm rooms. I heard them called everything from husband pillows, boyfriend pillows, study pillows, and, of course video game pillows. People used them to prop themselves up just as I had done as a kid. I almost couldn’t believe it. They were still popular. Some people used them for video gaming too, so they could relax and see the t.v. at the same time.

Even today, my own Grandmother got one so she could read in bed. She’s getting older and her rheumatoid arthritis bothers her sometimes so bad that she can’t get out of bed. But the husband pillow helps her to at least sit up; to eat, drink, and read her book. It seems that these pillows are popular from kids playing video games, to senior citizens who need the extra help.

The pillow’s history dates back to the tombs of Egyptians. Many of their revered dead were buried with pillows so they could be comfortable for ever. Later, and throughout history, only the very wealthy could afford pillows and they were considered a luxury. Pillows from there turned into an art form and were considered artistic and beautiful. Still, the complicated dyes and stitching were too pricey for commoners to purchase.

Today, you would be hard pressed to find a home without at least one pillow. They really are a staple of every living room and bedroom. The husband/study/boyfriend pillow is very versatile, its great for all ages and for a multitude of activity. Beds and bedrooms aren’t just for sleeping. They’re used for studying, watching t.v., reading, video gaming, talking on the phone, etc. Take the college student for example. If you live, or have lived, in a dorm, you practically live in your bedroom. A dorm is really just a big bedroom, and your bed serves as a couch, desk, and dining room table. Unfortunately, for my Grandmother, she spends more time in her bed than she would wish. But she does enjoy that pillow, as it helps her to sit up properly so she can do what she loves the most, read her grocery store romance novels. But at least she can still read, and at least she has that extra help sitting up.
