Video Games, News, and Proper Support

{ Posted on Jan 29 2008 by arthur }

Video gaming has become extremely popular.  Games have become major sellers all across the globe in any media, including Windows, X-box 360, and  Playstation 3.  People, no matter what the age, are playing, buying, and talking about video games.  It has even opened up a new market that was previously small and limited.  It is all due to their ever expanding popularity.

There are plenty of games out there that have done more business in one day than many Hollywood blockbusters have in a whole week.   In fact, Halo 3 set an industry standard with the most sales within a 24 hour period.  Thats includes the entire entertainment industry and not just the world of gaming.  Halo 3 made $170 million in 24 hours.  That’s over $7 million an hour and that’s what I would call “pretty darn impressive”.  Since its release on September 25, 2007, it has sold 8.1 million copies.

Besides the successes of Halo 3 there are other video games out there that are just as popular.   World of Warcraft has been around since 1994 and has been very popular all over the world.  It has gotten national attention when people have come forward and admitted they were addicted to the game.  They actually traded their own lives for the avatar that represents them on screen.  No matter what, you cannot dispute the popularity of video gaming.

More video gaming has reached the news recently.  TV personality Doctor Phil has come out and said that he does not like the new game Call of Duty 4 because it promotes racism.  Players at home can talk to one another through internet play and it has been said that some people use the game as a vehicle for racist comments.  But no matter what negative press these games get, they are still rising in popularity.

As I had mentioned previously in the article, this has opened up a new job market.  This has expanded into the consumer market as well.  Video gaming chairs have become very popular.  They can range up to $300 per chair.  Some of them even have built in speakers.  Gamers say that these chairs help support their backs and necks properly while they are playing so they don’t get stiff.  It also keeps their posture straight, too.   But most video gaming chairs, even one’s without the speakers or the leather, can still run well over 50 dollars, and often times, when ordering over the internet, that does not include shipping.  And most of them still don’t provide arm support.

If you are looking for a support chair, try the bed rest pillow.  It will work right on the floor, or in conjunction with other furniture.  It will even provide arm support.   It may not have the built in speakers, but it will be cost effective.  Try Slumbermart.com for other support pillows too.  But the bed rest is the best.  And it is not just used for video gaming, but has other excellent benefits as well.  Most of which I have already outlined in a previous blog.

So whether you’re trying to get to level 70 in World of Warcraft or you’re fighting the covenant with all the tricks of the trade, you can at least have a little support.

As always, Art.

  1. As an aside, Warcraft as a franchise has been around since 1994. I believe the online MMORPG has been around for 4 or so years now.

    But it certainly has established itself as a brand.

    It’s published by Blizzard entertainment, the same geniuses that develepoed the The Diablo series (Diablo 3 status currently unknown) and Starcraft, whose 2nd version is coming out soon I believe.
